Need Some Space

Going to the Europalia.Brazil exhibition “Art in Brazil” was just a joy. The exquisite selection of Brazilian contemporary artists of the last 60 years was incredible. Their diversity is vast, but they have one thing in common: the research about the concept of space.

One of my favourite works is a “tridimensional” by Henrique Oliveira. He makes wooden contructions that seem to break out of the walls. Very impressive.
Also the room that was completely dedicated to the work of Lygia Clark didn’t leave me unmoved. The geometric forms and combination of black, yellow and metal made a beautiful composition through the whole space.

I like both the artworks above and below for exactly the opposite reasons. The one above almost seems to become a 2-dimensional image, whereas the one below practically pops out of its surface.

It was hard to make a selection to show on this blog, because there is a lot worth seeing. If you are into contemporary art and not far from Brussels, ‘Art in Brazil’ is exhibition numero uno to visit!
