From Buda to Pest
Sziasztok! Tuesday 6 september I took the plane from Eindhoven airport to Budapest! This was the first stop of our Eurorailtrip. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by Wizzair. Due to the wind we arrived 15 min earlier. A bus transfer was included in our ticket so after we got our luggage we went to look for the meetingpoint. At first we were a bit sceptic because we didn’t see any Wizzair signs. But after waiting for 10 minutes a small bus arrived on the parkinglot.
I really didn’t know what to expect of Budapest. But the moment we drove into the city centre I knew this is my kind of town. Big boulevards, a river, buildings that remind me of French architecture. Yes I like it.
Our hotel was located in Oktogon. This part of the city is located on the big boulevard Andrássy where all the expensive shops are. Eventhough we stayed in the better part of Pest, we paid next to nothing. Easyhotel is a (British) hotelchain that offers compact but clean rooms at a fair price. 25 euro a night a room. I love beautiful and luxurous hotels but this isn’t necessary when you want to visit a city. The service at the Easyhotel Oktogon is superb. The staff gave us a lot of tips and instantly helped me with a small problem in my bathroom.
The first day we went to Heroes Square and to central parc to relax a bit after our journey. Afterworths we went for a walk to explore the neighbourhood a bit.
For dinner we went to the Liszt F. Square. Here you can find all different kinds of restaurants. We went to Karma but it wasn’t extraordinary.
After dinner we ended up tagging along with a group of Hungarian students. They were all very friendly and explained us some of the rituals of the fraternities. One girl studied in Scotland so her English was perfect. She was our translator. It was a great way to start our holiday.
